In order to reach their full potential, not only do these children need access to healthy food, safe housing and healthcare, they need to experience the cultural, athletic and educational experiences which provide a richness to life.         

Many families have to choose between paying a seemingly small registration fee and paying utility bills. They have to choose between paying for dance lessons and paying rent. Sometimes in these families there are multiple children who want o participate Little League so what would be manageable for on child is not doable for multiple children.

Why the name Soweto? Soweto in South African is actually short for South West Township. Soweto and Southwest Little Rock have many of the same issues and struggles. Soweto is a community which was in many ways the center of struggle and resiliency in South Africa. Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” While there must be days children and their families think things are bleak, the challenges insurmountable, we know that through hard work, creativity and resiliency change is possible and must have faith in the power of the human spirit.
